The Central Bank of Latvia (LB) Latvijas Banka will issue a special silver collector coin on October 31 dedicated to 100 years of basketball in Latvia. 2023 will mark the 100th anniversary of the Latvian Basketball Federation, which was founded in 1923.

“Latvia is proud of significant achievements in this sport. For example, our national team won the first European men’s basketball in recent years and also saw some important achievements in the international arena.

The obverse of the coin shows a basketball hoop with a gilded ball on the rim of the basket, while the reverse of the coin features a tactical diagram of the game of basketball. The inscription “20:23” is not only a symbol of the coin’s year of issue, but the score of the game shown on the scoreboard suggests that this is a travel game of the Latvian national team.
