Lithuania Tightens Control over Russian and Belarusian Goods at Border Points

From August 25, the Lithuanian Food and Veterinary Service (PVS) tightens control over Russian and Belarusian goods at the border points.
In particular, it is known that enhanced checks will be carried out for human and animal health, and in the case of genetically modified organisms, to reduce the risks of harm to the environment.
The decision to strengthen control was made by order of the Chief Food and Veterinary Inspector, based on the assessment of control results from April 1 to July 31, 2024.
These results showed that food products of Russian and Belarusian origin should still be subject to control, so doubts about their safety still exist, especially at the beginning of the new harvest season. Enhanced control measures will last until February 23, 2025.
