Highest Income Countries in the EU

20220929144136

In 2024, the highest average incomes were enjoyed by residents of northern and western European countries. The gap with the countries at the bottom of the ranking is quite large.

Gross earnings, which represent the amount of compensation before all deductions, may not be the most effective indicator for comparing European countries, as workers’ income taxes and social security contributions vary significantly. In addition, some countries offer different benefits to families with children. Therefore, it is more logical to focus on net annual income.

According to a new Eurostat report, annual income after all deductions varies significantly by country, even taking into account purchasing power. In 2024, it ranged from €11,074 in Bulgaria to €50,410 in Luxembourg. The average figure in the bloc was €29,573. These figures refer to a single working person who does not have children.
