EU to impose tariffs on $28 billion worth of US goods
The European Union will impose tariffs on $28 billion worth of US goods, Reuters reported, citing the European Commission.
Today, 25% tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on steel and aluminum imports came into force.
In response to the US President’s decision, the European Commission said the EU would take countermeasures against US products in April.
“This is in line with the economic scale of the US tariffs. Our retaliatory measures will be implemented in two stages. They will start on April 1 and will be fully implemented on April 13,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
In addition, Ursula von der Leyen said that the EU is ready for a constructive dialogue.
For information, yesterday, US President Donald Trump threatened Canada with a 50% increase in tariffs on steel and aluminum imported into the US, but later abandoned the plan after the Premier of the Canadian province of Ontario, Doug Ford, suspended the imposition of a 25% surcharge on electricity exports from Ontario to the states of Minnesota, New York and Michigan.
